2026 Nebraska Social Studies Standards Review: PUBLIC INPUT SURVEY

The purpose of this survey is to gather feedback on proposed updates to the 2019 Nebraska College- and Career-Ready Standards for Social Studies. The information collected will be used as part of the review process.

The standards should:
Reflect essential social studies knowledge and skills that students need to become competent citizens, successful college students, and successful in their respective careers.
Provide clear and specific learning targets needed for instruction and assessment.
Offer a scaffolded framework for teaching and learning across all grade levels.
For this survey, we are interested in your feedback related to the essential knowledge, disciplinary skills, and rigor of proposed updates and revisions to the 2019 Social Studies Standards.

Standards: Standards define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level; they are not a curriculum, but rather the goals that guide curriculum development and instruction at the local level.
Content: Content refers to the knowledge and skills that students are expected to learn as a result of the standards. Content reflects the "what" students learn. Content DOES NOT refer to specific curriculum or teaching methods that would be used in a school or classroom.
Rigor: Rigor refers to the depth of thinking and learning that the standard requires. Rigorous standards encourage deeper thinking, advanced skill development, and help students apply their learning across a variety of contexts.

**PLEASE NOTE: Responses may be made individually or by a group (e.g., community organization, ESU staff developers, high school social studies teachers, team, etc.)
